Sellotape is the UK’s leading adhesive tape brand, invented in 1937 by Colin Kininmonth and George Gray in Acton West London by coating Cellophane film with natural rubber resin, the name derived from Cellophane with the C changed to S to allow trademarking. Widely used during World War Two to seal ammunition boxes and protect windowpanes from bomb damage, Sellotape entered the Oxford English Dictionary in 1980 and holds a registered trademark in 96 countries worldwide.
